/ Heartburn & Affirmations

I'll make this quick.

The site has been updated to query posts from different categories rather than just the blog alone. I think this promotes more exploration and gives visitors a better sense of what this whole site is rather than just reading the blog. You'd think this would go smoothly, but it didn't. I broke the article container on my way there somehow. Don't look too closely at it.

Some sections are randomized again to promote exploration. Hope you like it.

WIP is updated with the major project I've been talking about.

Wrote a substack article about how much a Claude-generated app I use sucks.

/ Here You Me

I accidentally missed the Sunny Day Real estate set last night. Trying not to be a baby about it but I've been waiting to hear Seven live for a disgustingly long time Oh well, next time. Most good bands are dead, anyways. But here's a photo of Jimmy Eat World and I happen to know most of their songs too.

I haven't been at this big of a show or seen a show outdoors in a long, long time. Had to be Foo Fighters in DC or Wrigley, more than 12 years ago at this point. Not a fan but we ball.

Went on my morning jog today and came upon a book sale i didn't know about at the library. I try to keep up with these and can't believe I didn't have this written down already, but the surprise also feels really nice. It was a really good sale and everyone at the library was super nice, as they always are. One day (I will join them).

I'm listening to everyone that tells me not to worry about how all my collections are growing too big to manage. I have a bunch of books that don't even fit on my shelf anymore but here I go, buying more. And I don't plan on stopping any time soon. I'll just sleep on them or something.

The Ford project is finished. I blew through the money already on bills.

Family has also been absolute bullshit and I won't upset myself by going into detail.

Have been working on too many sites that aren't mine and my eyes feel like putty. I'll clean up around here soon.

/ SIIIIU-U-U-UUU

Went for a walk the other day and saw a kid setting up a table in front of his house. I thought it was a lemonade stand at first but noticed he was selling his trading card collection. He was wearing his lil soccer jersey too. I don't know shit about soccer and asked for the only players i knew. He only wanted $20 for both and when I gave him the cash, he took off running into the house smiling ear to ear to tell his parents about his first sale. It was really cute. Made my day, maybe my whole weekend.

Enjoying the little things lately. Laughing at myself for closing every blind in the house because it's so hot and I'm turning into my parents. Spending at least some part of each day watering plants, going for walks and jogs, drinking my little teas. Still working a lot and trying to get that under control, honestly.

Seeing Jimmy Eat World / Get Up Kids / Sunny Day Real Estate Friday. This had my name written all over it. It's Bleed American cover to cover and the lineup is almost too perfect. I also found a $60 ticket in the section behind the pit, holy shit. It's my first concert that size since 2014. Unbelievable. Can't wait to tell you all about it.

/ All Work // No Play

This is the first time I've come up for air in about two weeks. This big contract has been a lot of work and my regular job has gotten awful ambitious with my time. I'm pretty exhausted, ngl. I have a grad party and a lecture already booked this weekend. I miss having fun and I hope I have some soon.

Been getting a lot done around the house. Pulled up all the flowerbeds, took down a dead tree, and had a dumpster here to clean out the basement. It doesn't feel like I put much of a dent in the basement but I promise I did.

The car had some work done-- a faulty sensor has been fixed so the car doesn't accidentally go into hill climb mode for no reason now. Jesus. Hoping to install the ladder onto it this weekend. And no idea when this AC is going in but we ball.

Again. Hope to have some fun soon.

Site Updates

  • Little frills were added to all my major headings and i love them
  • Little buttons were added to sidebar headings
  • Added a calendar to the sidebar with callouts to events. Unbelievably helpful somehow.
  • On pages like my shirt collection, title tags are converted to stylized hover states (which I've never done before. cool)
  • A CRT filter was added overall to soften every edge on the site
  • Made a dump of miscellaneous web trinkets
  • Started my Webamp, got a long way to go

/ Leaning on a wheel

New layout, again. It's shit like this that got me into playing on the internet in the first place. It's such a forgiving medium. I don't make a mess, I don't spend any money.

I went back to the doubled up sidebar look, there's something very me about it. I also don't see a lot of people do it, which is always an appeal. It's purposely cramped and I like that.

If I learned anything from Neocities, it's that there's nothing wrong with cramped, busy, and boxy. I'm stepping out of my comfort zone with this and it feels good.

I'm using a column-count: 2 property on the main content div that splits up content sort of unpredictably into a masonry layout. It's the unpredictability of the div splitting that gives the site a weird jankiness that I really enjoy.

It's most apparent on pages like Site and actually looks really really cool on single posts.

This design also allows me to have really big, sprawling galleries and a more shelled out about me page that resembles the sort of haphazard sections for these pages I see all over Neocities. I love that.

I'm able to achieve this by making my profile page a tag and nesting posts under that tag. The notes page also looks awesome in this design. Full size image feeds like my Walkblog look like film strips. Also in love with that. Hope this one is a keeper.

Feeling anxious about the big contract. They haven't looked at my estimate/pricing and that's annoying. They also shortened the timeline. Gross. I just want them to sign off on the number, it's all I ask. We'll see.
