    As seen at Oloman Cafe’s Miles and Miles group exhibition. I didn’t even know that there was already narrative and conversation about 3.5 star chinese restaurants but I’m glad we all feel it.

    In a show about how it feels and what it means to be a first gen immigrant to the US, I wanted to continue to reference motifs and images that helped anchor me when I felt uprooted and lost in my identity while also capturing that ever present threat of western scrutiny. Yelp always felt like a hyper condensed reflection of those anxieties in a medium that some fail to realize extends far beyond food and customer service that I hope to capture with this piece

    Banh mi Trang is a piece I made for the Orchids and Oranges group show at Faitan Brewery, Detroit. The show's theme focused on the experiences of Asian youth diaspora, featuring a number of local Detroit artists of immigrant and refugee backgrounds.

    Reinterpreting such images as comfort items for the home, soft sculptures to surround myself with beyond a meal, was important to do as I got older and became more independent. Banh mi Trang is such an object.

    This piece was sold a few months later to an unknown buyer.

    As a part of Red Bull Arts’ Monolith group show curated by Jessica Allie in October 2021, I was approached to contribute an installation along with three other local women artists for the last Red Bull show in this location. Using Python, Philips Hue lights, and an existing library that scored every word in the English language for emotional connotation (positive vs negative), light, sound, and pitch are manipulated by the aggregate score of a user’s text to generate and manipulate a drone sound and light temperature for the space of the installation.

    Ba Con Guise is another piece in a series of food-related comfort images from my childhood. The piece is a torn and distorted rice bag from the most iconic brand in my household, Ba Con Gai (Three Ladies Brand). The goal of this piece was to take a familiar Vietnamese image and obscure it until it is only recognizable by others who are familiar with the brand in an attempt at visual solidarity and closed-loop communication. The piece was a major success, as it was then purchased by a Vietnamese buyer who connected with it in the exact way I was hoping to.

    / Tunnel of Love show

    January 2017

    As a part of the Tunnel of Love: Into the Portal group show curated by Shaina Kasztelan and Heidi Barlow at Pikes Gallery, the exhibition was a special Valentine's Day show focused on different experiences and perspectives of love, romance, and intimacy from the eyes of several local women artists. My contribution, Thanks for Nothing, was a timely piece created at a difficult point in my life, which was also captured in a companion zine called No Gods.

    Part of the Wild Tribe group exhibition at Pikes Gallery, I created a series of etched acrylic poems and drawings meant to express my exact level of comfort with my own feelings. There, but hard to read. There, but ghosted. There, but requiring closer inspection. I was going through a lot of nonsense at this time in my life and wanted to emote, but not completely. "Fuck around and find out" and "Rose" pieces sold to unknown buyers.
