First Hadouken

Inspired by a viral meme of a father who framed a hole in the wall as an art piece, I created First Hadouken, which was the same concept exaggerated. The piece is simply a hole in a piece of drywall, meticulously framed and presented in a contemporary aesthetic. When placed over a white wall, the piece gave an illusion that a frame was simply placed over a real hole in the wall.

The piece is designed in part to criticize and make light of art, the industry, the nature of contemporary artwork and its aesthetic, as well as fit into my own narrative of intense uniform color and minimalism.

Hadouken was shown at Red Bull House of Art in March 2016.
